Socket Welding Flanges refers to the flange where the pipe end is inserted into the flange ring ladder and welded at the pipe end and outside. There are two kinds: with neck and without neck. Necked pipe flange has good rigidity, small welding deformation and good sealing performance, and can be used in the situation with pressure of 1.0~10.0MPa.

Scope of application: Boiler and pressure vessel, petroleum, chemical industry, shipbuilding, pharmacy, metallurgy, machinery, stamping elbow food and other industries.
Commonly used in pipes with PN ≤ 10.0MPa and DN ≤ 40.
Advantages of socket welding pipe fittings
1) It is not necessary to prefabricate the groove of the pipe.
2) It is not necessary to calibrate the spot welds, as the fittings themselves serve the purpose of calibration.
3) Welding materials will not penetrate into pipe holes.
4) It can replace threaded pipe fittings, thus reducing the risk of leakage.
5) Fillet welds are not suitable for radiographic testing, so correct fitting and welding are critical. Fillet welds are usually inspected by magnetic particle testing and penetrant testing.
6) The construction cost is usually lower than that of butt welded joints. The reason is that groove assembly and groove prefabrication are not required.
Disadvantages of socket welding pipe fittings
1) Welders shall ensure 1.6mm welding expansion gap between pipe and socket shoulder during welding.
2) The existence of cracks in the welding gap and socket weld reduces the corrosion resistance or radiation resistance of the pipeline. When solid particles accumulate at socket weld joints, they may cause failures for pipeline operation and maintenance. In this case, full penetration butt welds are usually required for the entire pipe.
3) Socket welding is not suitable for ultra-high pressure food industry. Due to its incomplete penetration, there are overlaps and cracks, which are difficult to clean and form false leakage.
