What is PTFE?
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a kind of polymer polymerized with tetrafluoroethylene as monomer. It has excellent heat and cold resistance and can be used for a long time at minus 180~260 º C. This material has the characteristics of acid resistance, alkali resistance and resistance to various organic solvents, and is almost insoluble in all solvents. At the same time, polytetrafluoroethylene has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, and its friction coefficient is extremely low, so it can be used for lubrication, and also become an ideal coating for easy cleaning of the inner layer of water pipes. PTFE refers to the addition of PTFE coating lining inside the ordinary EPDM rubber joint, which is mainly white.
The role of PTFE
PTFE can effectively protect rubber joints from strong acid, strong alkali or high temperatture oil and other media corrosion.
Purpose
- It is used in the electrical industry and as the insulation layer, corrosion resistant and wear-resistant material for power and signal lines in aerospace, aviation, electronics, instrumentation, computer and other industries. It can be used to make films, tube sheets, rods, bearings, gaskets, valves, chemical pipes, pipe fittings, equipment container linings, etc.
- It is used in the fields of electrical appliances, chemical industry, aviation, machinery and other fields to replace quartz glassware for the ultra-pure chemical analysis and storage of various acids, alkalis and organic solvents in the fields of atomic energy, medicine, semiconductor and other industries. It can be made into high insulation electrical parts, high frequency wire and cable sheaths, corrosion resistant chemical utensils, high temperature resistant oil pipes, artificial organs, etc. It can be used as additives for plastics, rubber, coatings, inks, lubricants, greases, etc.
- PTFE is resistant to high temperature and corrosion, has excellent electrical insulation, aging resistance, low water absorption, and excellent self-lubrication performance. It is a universal lubricating powder suitable for various media, and can be quickly coated to form a dry film, which can be used as a substitute for graphite, molybdenum and other inorganic lubricants. It is a release agent suitable for thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers, with excellent bearing capacity. It is widely used in the elastomer and rubber industry and in corrosion prevention.
- As a filler for epoxy resin, it can improve the abrasion resistance, heat resistance and corrosion resistance of epoxy adhesive.
- It is mainly used as the binder and filler of powder.
Advantages of PTFE
- High temperature resistance – operating temperature up to 250 ℃
- Low temperature resistance – good mechanical toughness; Even if the temperature drops to – 196 ℃, the elongation of 5% can be maintained.
- Corrosion resistance – for most chemicals and solvents, it is inert and resistant to strong acids and alkalis, water and various organic solvents.
- Weather resistance – has the best aging life of plastics.
- High lubrication is the lowest friction coefficient among solid materials.
- Non-adhesion – is the minimum surface tension in solid materials and does not adhere to any substance.
- Non-toxic – It has physiological inertia, and has no adverse reactions after long-term implantation as artificial blood vessels and organs.
- Electrical insulation – can withstand 1500 V high voltage.
